In his second book on glass fusing, Boyce Lundstrom explores a number of advanced fusing techniques.  These include:

  • bas relief - that is, creating an image in relief on the surface of the glass using fibre paper and/or calcium carbonate paste, and carving castables for bas relief;
  • using stringers to create free-form shapes; and
  • using enamels and lustres.

There is also a chapter of slumping and sagging glass, including slumping through stretched wire.  Slumping is nearly synonymous with sagging.  Whilst slumping usually implies a bending without noticeable change in the thickness of the cross-section of glass, with sagging the thickness of the cross-section changes noticeably due to stretching.

For the more adventurous, there is a chapter on using the glory hole (an insulated container with an open front and a heat source capable of producing intense heat) to make stringers, pattern bars, fracture glass or free-form trailled lines as design elements to be used in fused glass work.
