Colour de Verre’s latest designs enable people to create lidded, glass boxes.

Each design includes two parts: a mould for the base and a mould for the lid. These moulds can be filled with any size frit, billets, casting rocks, nuggets, pebbles, sheet glass - broken or cut-to-fit, “nipped” rods, or a combination of these.

For best effect, Colour de Verre recommends the use of frit, at least 50% of which should be clear (otherwise the castings will be very dark).  To see our range of fine frits, click here.

IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT FOR BEST EFFECT, COLOUR DE VERRE SPECIFICALLY RECOMMENDS THE USE  OF HOTLINE PRIMO PRIMER (OR MR-97, WHICH IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA).

Give the mould 3-4 thin, even coats of Primo Primer kiln wash, using a soft artist's brush to apply the Primer (Colour de Verre recommends that you do NOT use a haik brush, as this will not pick up the necessary fine detail).  Use a hair dryer to completely dry each coat before applying the next.

In a second firing, tack fuse other Colour de Verre castings to the lid and base. Great additions are blossom, pine cone, leaf, dragonfly, butterfly, and scarab designs.

The larger mould measures approximately 13.97 cm x 13.97 cm x 5.71 cm.  The larger mould has a fill weight of 295 grams, whilst the smaller mould holds 115 grams - this is the amount of glass required to fill the mould properly.
